TITLE:
New-CMS Script Insertion and Cross-Site Request Forgery
Vulnerabilities
SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:
SA38631
VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/38631/
DESCRIPTION:
Alberto Fontanella has discovered some vulnerabilities in New-CMS,
which can be exploited by malicious users to conduct script insertion
attacks and by malicious people to conduct cross-site request forgery
attacks.
1) Input passed via the "titolo_0" parameter to index.php (when "pg"
is set to "editor_red" and "tipo" is set to "notizia") is not
properly sanitised before being displayed to the user. This can be
exploited to insert arbitrary HTML and script code, which will be
executed in a user's browser session in context of an affected site
when the malicious data is viewed.
Successful exploitation requires that users have administrative
rights on the "News" module.
2) The application allows users to perform certain actions via HTTP
requests without performing any validity checks to verify the
requests. This can be exploited to e.g. assigning administrative
rights to users by tricking the administrator into visiting a
malicious web site.
The vulnerabilities are confirmed in version 1.08. Other versions may
also be affected.
SOLUTION:
Edit the source code to ensure that input is properly sanitised. Do
not browse untrusted websites or follow untrusted links while logged
in to the application.
