TITLE:
GNU Automake "make dist" / "make distcheck" Insecure Directory
Permissions
SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:
SA37814
VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/37814/
DESCRIPTION:
A security issue has been reported in GNU Automake, which can be
exploited by malicious, local users to manipulate certain data.
The security is caused due to a race condition involving insecure
directory permissions when running "make dist" and "make distcheck",
which can be exploited to manipulate files intended for the
distribution.
Successful exploitation requires that the build tree is
world-searchable.
Note: This also affects all makefiles generated by vulnerable
Automake versions.
SOLUTION:
Update to version 1.10.3 and 1.11.1.
Regenerate makefiles generated by vulnerable Automake versions.
Patches have been applied to the following Git branches:
* branch-1-4
* branch-real-1-5
* branch-1-6
* branch-1-7
* branch-1-8
* branch-1-9
