DESCRIPTION:
A vulnerability has been reported in AIX, which can be exploited by
malicious local users to gain escalated privileges.
The vulnerability is caused due to an error in the handling of the
"_LIB_INIT_DBG" and "_LIB_INIT_DBG_FILE" environment variables in a
debugging component of the XL C++ runtime library. This can be
exploited to create arbitrary writable files owned by root via a
setuid root program linked with the XL C++ runtime library.
Successful exploitation allows to execute arbitrary code with root
privileges.
The vulnerability is reported in the following libraries and
