TITLE:
Red Hat update for dhcp
SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:
SA35831
VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/35831/
DESCRIPTION:
Red Hat has issued an update for dhcp. This fixes a security issue
and a vulnerability, which can be exploited by malicious, local users
to perform certain actions with escalated privileges and by malicious
people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service) and potentially compromise
a user's system.
1) A security issue is caused due to the "/etc/init.d/dhcpd" init
script using temporary files in an insecure manner when being invoked
with the "configtest", "restart", or "reload" command, which can be
exploited via symlink attacks to e.g. overwrite arbitrary files with
the output of the "dhcpd -t" command.
2) A vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error within dhclient
when processing subnet-mask options.
