DESCRIPTION:
Elazar Broad has discovered a vulnerability in Lycos FileUploader
Module, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a
user's system.
The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error in the
FileUploader.FUploadCtl.1 ActiveX control (FileUploader.dll) when
handling strings assigned to the "HandwriterFilename" property. This
can be exploited to cause a heap-based buffer overflow by assigning
an overly-long string to the affected property.
Successful exploitation allows execution of arbitrary code.
The vulnerability is confirmed in FileUploader.dll version 2.0.0.2.
Other versions may also be affected.
SOLUTION:
Set the kill-bit for the affected ActiveX control.
