TITLE:
Soldat Multiple Denial of Service Vulnerabilities

SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:
SA26564

VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/26564/

CRITICAL:
Moderately critical

IMPACT:
DoS

WHERE:
>From remote

SOFTWARE:
Soldat 1.x
http://secunia.com/product/11458/

DESCRIPTION:
Some vulnerabilities have been reported in Soldat, which can be
exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service).

1) Input passed to the file transfer port (default 23083/tcp) of the
Soldat multiplayer server is printed on the console without proper
filtering for special characters (e.g. 0x07). This can be exploited
to block Soldat when it runs in dedicated server mode.

NOTE: The vulnerability reportedly also affects Soldat running as a
non-dedicated server.

2) A boundary error exists when displaying messages in Soldat
clients. This can be exploited to crash Soldat clients by sending an
overly string to the Soldat server's file transfer port, or by
sending an overly long internal chat message.

The vulnerabilities are reported in Soldat 1.4.2. Other versions may
also be affected.

SOLUTION:
Use Soldat as a multiplayer server only in a trusted network
environment.
