TITLE:

SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:
SA25900

VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/25900/

CRITICAL:
Less critical

IMPACT:
Manipulation of data

WHERE:
Local system

SOFTWARE:
FireFlier 1.x
http://secunia.com/product/14680/

DESCRIPTION:
Steve Kemp has reported a security issue in FireFlier, which can be
exploited by malicious, local users to delete arbitrary files.

The "getChains()" function in server/rules.cpp deletes the file
"/tmp/fireflier.rules" in an insecure manner, which can be exploited
via symlink attacks to delete arbitrary files.

The security issue is reported in version 1.1.6. Other versions may
also be affected.

SOLUTION:
FireFlier is no longer officially supported. Edit the source code to
use temporary files correctly or use another product.
