By courtesy of CERT Coordination Center we received the following information.
CERT Coordination Center advisory CA-97:04 reports a vulnerability
in talkd, the daemon responding to 'talk'. Expoitation scripts have been
published.
This vulnerability allows remotely executing arbitrary commands with root
privileges.
This advisory provides patch information specific to talkd, but also
recommends to have DNS name services configured in such a way that
a whole class of network services problems is avoided.
CERT-NL recommends to act on CERT-CC's info.
Additional information with regards to this vulnerability is placed in
the README file associated with the advisory. You are encouraged to check
on README file updates regularly. You can automate that process by using
