DESCRIPTION:
Brendan Coles has discovered a weakness and multiple vulnerabilities
in Zenoss, which can be exploited by malicious users to conduct
script insertion attacks and compromise a vulnerable system and by
malicious people to conduct spoofing and cross-site request forgery
attacks.
1) Input passed via the "daemon" parameter to
zport/About/showDaemonXMLConfig is not properly verified before being
used in a "Popen()" call and can be exploited to execute arbitrary
shell commands.
2) Input passed via the "sortedSence" parameter to multiple scripts
is not properly sanitised before being used. This can be exploited to
insert arbitrary HTML and script code, which will be executed in a
user's browser session in context of an affected site if malicious
data is viewed.
List of affected scripts:
http://[host]/zport/dmd/Events/Users/eventClassStatus
http://[host]/zport/dmd/Events/Status/Snmp/eventClassStatus
http://[host]/zport/dmd/backupInfo
3) Input passed via the "came_from" parameter to
zport/acl_users/cookieAuthHelper/login is not properly verified
before being used to redirect users. This can be exploited to
redirect a user to an arbitrary website e.g. when a user clicks a
specially crafted link to the affected script hosted on a trusted
domain.
4) The application allows users to perform certain actions via HTTP
requests without performing any validity checks to verify the
requests. This can be exploited to e.g. start and stop daemons or add
a manager account by tricking an administrative user into visiting a
malicious web site.
The weakness and the vulnerabilities are confirmed in version 3.2.1.
Other versions may also be affected.
