DESCRIPTION:
Two vulnerabilities have been discovered in GEAR CD DVD Filter
Driver, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to gain
escalated privileges.

1) An integer overflow error when allocating memory within the
0x00222000 IOCTL functionality can be exploited to cause a non-paged
pool buffer overflow and corrupt kernel memory.

2) An error within the SCSI Pass Through handling when processing
SCSI messages sent via the 0x00222000 IOCTL can be exploited to
overwrite arbitrary kernel memory.

Successful exploitation of the vulnerabilities allows execution of
arbitrary code with escalated privileges.

The vulnerabilities are confirmed in the following products with the
installer package version 4.018.3 patch applied (other versions may
also be affected):
* GEAR CD DVD Filter Driver version 2.2.0.1.
* GEAR ISO Burn version 1.7.1.

SOLUTION:
Restrict access to trusted users only. The vendor plans to release a
patch when Windows 8 is officially released.
