EncFS Encrypted Filesystem 1.7.2
Posted Sep 8, 2010
Authored by Valient Gough | Site arg0.net

EncFS is an encrypted pass-through filesystem which runs in userspace on Linux (using the FUSE kernel module). Similar in design to CFS and other pass-through filesystems, all data is encrypted and stored in the underlying filesystem. Unlike loopback filesystems, there is no predetermined or pre-allocated filesystem size.

Changes: This version fixes option handling issues introduced in 1.7.0 that prevented mounting of certain filesystem types.

Unlike loopback filesystems, there is no predetermined or pre-allocated filesystem size.

Changes: Initialization vector setup for new filesystems was replaced, which helps against a watermark attack.

Unlike loopback filesystems, there is no predetermined or pre-allocated filesystem size.

Changes: Support was added for boost 1.42 and 1.43. Modtime is maintained during rename. Fixes were made for gcc 4.x and Mac OS X builds.

Shiva is a tool to encrypt ELF executables under Linux. Shiva can be used to wrap an executable in such a way that though it continues to run as it did before it is very difficult to debug or reverse engineer. Shiva can be used to password protect critical programs, including setuid programs, or simply to obfuscate sensitive data stored within programs.

The idea of the International Kernel Patch is to collect all crypto patches so that using crypto in the kernel will be easier than today. The patch includes a number of crypto patches including a crypto API including Blowfish, CAST-128, DES, DFC, IDEA, MARS, RC6, Rijndael, Safer, Serpent, and Twofish, an encrypted filesystem loopback device using the crypto API, CIPE VPN and EnSKIP patches.

Changes: Ported to Linux kernel v2.2.18.
